Adventures near New York City

New York's outdoor options are almost all inside the city limits, which is the opposite of what most people assume. The Greenbelt on Staten Island holds more than 35 miles of genuinely rugged trail, Pelham Bay is the largest park in the city, and there is a purpose-built mountain-bike network in Queens. You do not need to leave to get a real day out.

What the terrain gives you

Woodland trail systems on Staten Island and in the Bronx, coastal forest and saltmarsh along the shoreline, purpose-built singletrack in Queens, and free harbour paddling in Brooklyn.

Seasonal reality

Spring and fall migration transform the birding sites at Jamaica Bay and Pelham Bay. The free Brooklyn Bridge Park paddle only runs late May through September, and it books out.
